Orthopaedic Trauma and Fracture Surgery

Expert Emergency Orthopaedic Care

Injuries happen without warning. When they do, you need an experienced surgeon immediately. Dr. Nabeel Moosa provides urgent evaluation and expert surgical care for fractures and injuries. With more than 20 years of trauma experience, Dr. Moosa has treated thousands of injuries. His goal is simple: restore your function and return you to normal life as safely and quickly as possible.

What Is Orthopaedic Trauma?

Orthopaedic trauma means injury to your bones, joints, ligaments, or tendons.

Common causes include:

  • Falls, especially in older adults
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Sports injuries
  • Workplace accidents

The goal of trauma surgery is to restore stability, alignment, and function. Early, correct treatment gives the best recovery.

Injuries We Treat

Dr. Moosa treats fractures and injuries throughout the body:

  • Hip fractures (a medical emergency in older adults)
  • Thighbone, lower leg, and ankle fractures
  • Pelvic fractures
  • Shoulder, elbow, and wrist fractures
  • Kneecap and knee fractures
  • Ligament tears (ACL, MCL, ankle ligaments)
  • Meniscus tears
  • Tendon ruptures (Achilles, rotator cuff, quadriceps)

Which Injuries Need Emergency Surgery?

Some injuries need surgery within hours:

  • Open fractures (bone through skin). High infection risk. We clean and stabilise them urgently.
  • Hip fractures in older adults. Early surgery reduces complications and saves lives.
  • Fractures with damaged blood vessels or nerves. Urgent surgery restores circulation.
  • Unstable pelvic fractures with bleeding. Urgent stabilisation controls the bleeding.

Other fractures can wait 24 to 48 hours for planned surgery. Dr. Moosa advises you on the urgency of your specific injury.

How We Treat Fractures

Plates and Screws (ORIF)

We set the bones in the correct position and hold them with plates and screws. Best for joint fractures and many limb fractures.

Intramedullary Nailing

We insert a metal rod down the centre of the bone. Best for thighbone and shinbone fractures. Small incisions, strong fixation.

External Fixation

Pins through the skin connect to a frame outside the limb. Best for severe open fractures and temporary stabilisation.

Non-Surgical Treatment

Many stable, well-aligned fractures heal in a cast or boot. Dr. Moosa always chooses the simplest treatment that gives you a reliable result.

Your Recovery

Recovery varies with the injury, your age, and your health.

  • Weeks 0 to 6: Protection, pain control, and gentle movement where safe.
  • Weeks 6 to 12: Gradual weight-bearing, improved movement, early strengthening.
  • Months 3 to 6: Full weight-bearing, return to work and normal activities.
  • 6+ months: Return to sport for most patients.

Physiotherapy is essential. Committed patients recover faster and better.
